A Quick Walkable Route Around Parque Los Fundadores, Fifth Avenue, and the Caribbean
Your bags are sorted, your ticket is ready, and you still have two hours before catching the ferry to Cozumel.
That's not enough time for a major activity, but it's definitely too long to spend sitting around watching the clock.
Luckily, the Playa del Carmen ferry terminal is right next to one of the most walkable parts of Downtown. Parque Los Fundadores, Fifth Avenue, small shops, restaurants, and the Caribbean are all within easy reach.
So don't go too far. With two hours to spare, you can turn the wait into one last walk around Playa.
First Stop | Parque Los Fundadores
Start exactly where you'll eventually finish.
Parque Los Fundadores sits next to the ferry terminal and is one of Downtown Playa del Carmen's most recognizable landmarks.
Walk toward the Portal Maya, take in the activity around the plaza, and head toward the Caribbean for a few minutes.
You don't need to stay long.
Think of this stop as one last look at the sea before starting your quick Downtown loop.
Suggested time: 15–20 minutes.
Second Stop | Walk Along Fifth Avenue
From Los Fundadores, you're only steps away from Fifth Avenue.
Instead of trying to walk the entire avenue, stick to the first few blocks. Browse the shops, check out local crafts, or simply enjoy some people watching.

This is your chance.
Just remember there's a ferry waiting for you.
Suggested time: 30 minutes.
Third Stop | Make It a Snack Stop
Two free hours don't need to become a three-course meal.
Look for something quick along the way: an iced coffee, ice cream, a marquesita, fresh fruit, or another small snack that catches your attention.
Keeping this stop casual means you can enjoy something without spending the rest of your available time checking the clock from a restaurant table.
Suggested time: 20–25 minutes.
Fourth Stop | Detour Toward the Sea
Before heading back, leave Fifth Avenue through one of the streets leading toward the Caribbean.
One of the best things about Downtown Playa is how close the avenue and the water are, so take advantage of it.
Walk along First Avenue for a while or head back toward the coastline.
You don't need to go swimming.
With a ferry coming up, keeping your feet dry might actually be the smarter move.
Suggested time: 15–20 minutes.
Final Stop | Head Back with Time to Spare
Now make your way back toward the terminal.
Don't turn this mini itinerary into a race to catch your ferry.
Operators recommend arriving ahead of departure, and boarding procedures and required arrival times can vary, so always follow the current instructions provided with your ticket and by your ferry company.
If you're traveling with luggage, allow some extra time as well.
The rule for these two hours is simple: stay close.
Two Hours Are Enough If You Don't Try to Do Too Much
The mistake would be thinking you need to fill every minute.
Don't head all the way toward the northern end of Fifth Avenue, squeeze in a beach club, or sit down for a long lunch.
Stay around Parque Los Fundadores and the first few blocks of Downtown.
In roughly two hours, you can see the Caribbean one more time, walk along Fifth Avenue, pick up a small souvenir, grab a snack, and comfortably return to the ferry terminal.
That's a much better way to say goodbye to Playa than spending the entire wait sitting next to your bags.
